With the support of the leadership of the WAKO Azerbaijan Kickboxing Federation, the “Gəncə Open” open championship was held at the Gəncə Olympic Sports Complex on 24 May 2026. According to the federation’s announcement, the official opening ceremony was scheduled for 14:00.
A total of 310 athletes, 33 of them girls, competed in 30 teams representing 15 cities and districts of Azerbaijan. 24 referees and 4 chief referees oversaw the fair conduct of the bouts. The bouts were scored with a modern electronic scoring system.
As the federation noted, the high number of participants shows growing interest in kickboxing and the rapid development of the sport in the regions. The “Gəncə Open” open championship helps young athletes gain experience, builds a healthy competitive environment and contributes to the development of kickboxing in the country.
The federation stressed that the tournament once again showed the results of its leadership's work to develop kickboxing across the country, particularly in the regions, and that the support given to the sport continues to bear fruit.
